The Tea Party and the right have rallied to support Smitherman after the latest article in the Enquirer exposed his links to the far right. http://news.cincinnati.com/article/20130125/NEWS/301250050
The chairman of the Southwest Ohio Republican Party stated “I've admired his stance on issues of fiscal responsibility and he is a nearly-lone voice for fiscal sanity on a City Council desperately needing a dose of that sanity.”(Please see the full statement below) This seems pretty close to an endorsement by the GOP. Also, Smitherman’s Tea Party friends at COAST came out and defended their leader. http://coast-usa.blogspot.com/2013/01/attacks-from-left-continue-over.html?utm_source=Attacks+on+COAST+-+Smitherman+Continue&utm_campaign=NAACP+attacks&utm_medium=email
Not that there is anything wrong with Smitherman being part of the Tea Party or the far right, he should just focus on improving his political career and not using the NAACP to promote and defend Tea Party values.
